Abstract

This  research is  of  3  objectives,  namely  :-    1)  The   study  of   Ven. Phra Raññhapāla’s  biography  in the propagation of  Buddhism.  2)  The  study  of  the desciples’s  biography  who were ordained out of their  faiths in the propagation of  Buddhism 3) The Comparative Study of  Ven. Phra Raññhapāla’s  biography  and  his  roles in spreading Buddhism  and the roles  played by the other desciples who were ordained  out  of  their  faiths  in  the  propagation  of   Buddhism.

From the study,  it is found that :-

Ven. Raññhapāla’s  name is originated from the help given by him to the State  which would  be  broken  because  of  the broken economy.    Ven. Raññhapāla’s  name  was received  from  his  wish set up at  Phra  Padummutra Buddha’ time.     Ven. Phra Raññhapāla  was born in the Raññhapāla’s  Family that was very rich in  Phra Gotama Buddha’s time.   When the Buddha went on a  journey to GuruState for teaching the Dhammas to the people,  Mr. Ratþtþhapāla was still a young man and  went  to  listen  the  Buddha’s   Dhammadesanā.  Then,  he had faith in the Buddha’s  Doctrines, and decided to be ordained as a monk.   He asked a permission  from  the  Buddha.    The Buddha       did not permit him to be ordained, because he did  not get  a  permission from his parents.             At  first, his parents did not give him a permission to be ordinated,   so  Raññhapāla,              a  young man protested his parents  by going on a hunger strike  untill  his parents relented him and finally gave him a permission  to be ordained as he needed.    After his parents gave him the permission to be ordained,  Ven. Phra Raññhapāla  was ordineted by the Buddha’s disciples.   Not long after his ordination,   he  attained Arahantaship  and  was given  the state of exellency of  faith in the Buddha’s  Doctrines,  and decided to be ordained as a monk in Buddhism.

Ven. Phra Raññhapāla’s  roles  were of two kinds :-   the  propagation of   Buddhism,   the teaching of the sermon  called  Anicca-Lakkhana to his parents  and  the  sermon  called  4  Dhammudesas to  King Korabhaya.

There are many desciples who were ordained out of their faith and were important in widely spreading Buddhism.  When his biography and his spreading of Buddhism is compare with other disciples,   it is  found  that  the Ven. Thera were of the important strength in helping the Buddha and the Buddha’s principles according  their abilities on the side of the excellency which is the special qualification for each disciple.
