Learning and Teaching Management of Social Studies : Religions and Cultures for Promoting the Desired Characteristics of Junior High School Students in Thambowon Wittaya school, Sakon Nakhon Province.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of junior high school students in Thambowon Wittaya School, Sakon Nakhon Province, to compare the performance of learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of the sample, and to study problems, obstacles and solutions of learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of the sample. Data were collected from 309 junior high school students. The questionnaire was used as a research instrument. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, One-way ANOVA, t-test, and F-test. The results of this research showed as follows.

1. The respondents had a high level of opinions towards learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of junior high school students in Thambowon Wittaya School, Sakon Nakhon Province. When individual aspects were considered, the aspect of desired characteristic with the highest mean was public-mindedness. Self-discipline, honesty and integrity, cherishing Thainess, Love of nation, religion and king, self-sufficient living, and avidity for learning were at a high level. Dedication and commitment to work was at a moderate level. It could be concluded that in the process of learning and teaching management, all desired characteristics were comprehensively integrated into the teaching. The desired characteristics met the standard expected by the school and were in accordance with the learning scheme of the Basic Education Core Curriculum B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008)stipulating the students across the nation having the aforesaid desired characteristics. Especially, public-mindedness was promoted by integrating it into the teaching in order to enhance students’ public-mindedness. 

2. The results of comparing the opinions and testing hypothesis showed that the respondents with different gender and age had indifferent opinions towards overall learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of junior high school students in Thambowon Wittaya school, Sakon Nakhon Province, rejecting the set hypothesis. The respondents with different grade had different opinions towards overall learning and teaching management of Social Studies, Religion and Culture for promoting the desired characteristics of junior high school students in Thambowon Wittaya School, Sakon Nakhon Province, accepting the set hypothesis.

3. The suggestions include teachers should cultivate students to aware of the love of nation, religion and king through teaching activities. The philosophy of sufficiency economy should be taught to be applied in students’ daily life. Public-mindedness should be practiced and cultivated so that students learn to scarify and help each other, enhancing harmony and morality for the national future.
