A Study of Buddhist Holistic Health of the Elderly : A Case Study of the Elderly Who Meditation Practices at Wat Phra Rama 9 Karnchanapisek Bangkok

Abstract

The main objectives of this research are : (1) to study the level of Buddhist holistic health. (2) to study the difference of Buddhist holistic health of the elderly separated according to personal information. Population is 188 elderlies in Wat Phra Rama 9 Karnchanapisek Bangkok The tool for collecting data is questionnaire and statistics to be used consist of percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, One Way ANOVA and the findings of this research are concluded as follows:  1)  General information  Most of the elderly are female (75%), 71-80 years of age (59%), and single (83%). Mostly Their occupation is private business/trading (43.09%), highest education level is the secondary school or lower (86.17%) and monthly income is lower than 5,000 per month (83.51%)  2)  Perception levels of Psycho-social factors

This research founded that totally perception  level of Psycho-social factors the elderlies is much (M= 4.93, S.D.= 0.69). When considered specific aspect in descending order it founded that 1. Perception of ability of oneself on taking care of health (M= 4.55). 2. Good attitude on taking care of the health of oneself (M= 4.47). 3. Belief internal-external powers concerning taking care of health of oneself (M= 4.40). 4. Supporting on taking care of the health of oneself from personal within in the center (M= 4.21). 5. Supporting on taking care of the health of oneself from physical personal (M= 3.86).  3)  Perception on Buddhist holistic health. It founded that the level of perception on Buddhist holistic health is much (M=4.44, S.D.= 0.36) and specific aspects in descending order are as following : 1. Wisdom development (M= 4.89). 2. Moral development (M= 4.86). 3. Emotional development (M= 4.46). 4. Physical development (M= 3.58). 4)  The difference among perception levels of  Buddhist holistic health. It founded that the elderlies categorized by sex, age, marital status, old occupation and the highest education have no different level of Buddhist holistic health.

However monthly income effected to level of Buddhist holistic health of the elderlies at significant level 0.05
