Training Management for Shot-Term Ordained Monks of Sangha in Ang Thong Province

Abstract

Objectives of the research were: 1. to study the management of the Buddhist monk's short-term training in Angthong Province 2. to compare the administration of the Buddhist monk's short-term training, Ang Thong Province classified by personal factors and 3. to study problems, obstacles and suggestions for the administration of short-term ordained monks' training, Ang Thong Province

Methodology was the mixed methods: The quantitative research collected data from 141 samples who were Buddhist monks and abbots in Ang Thong province by questionnaires with a confidence value of 0.777. Statistics used in data analysis were frequency values, percentage values, mean values, standard deviations. And one-way analysis of variance, ANOVA.  The qualitative research collected data from 9 experts, purposefully selected with structured in-depth-interview by face-to-face-interviewing. Data were analyzed by descriptive interpretation.    

Findings were as follows:

1. Buddhist monks in Ang Thong province had opinions about  the level of management of the Buddhist monks' short term training by  overall at high level at an average value of 4.27. Each aspect was also at high level; 1) policy was at high level at an average value of 4.34, 2) organization was high level at an average value of 4.30, 3) work performance was at high level at an average mean value of 4.26, and 4) evaluation was at high level with an average value of 4.16

2. The results of the comparison of opinions on the administration of the Buddhist monk's short-term training,Ang Thong Province  classified by personal status, it found that the Sangha Administrators with different age,  ordained age, Buddhist monk positions, educational qualification,  Pali educational level, formal educational level, did not have different opinions towards the administration of short-term priests' training, Ang Thong Province,

3. Problems and obstacles were:  1) the current ordination policy, some areas do not have preceptors. Laity has to be ordained at other places, making it difficult to care for. 2)  training organization, there was not set format of training causing the practitioner to be unable to practice according to rules and regulations effectively, 3) work performance, some monasteries do not have knowledgeable monks who are able to provide training for short-term ordination, 4) evaluation, monitoring and follow-up are difficult to carry out causing the evaluation did not meet the expected results. Suggestions for the administration of the Buddhist monk's short-term training Ang Thong Province; namely policy, there should be clear and applicable policy of short-term ordination training that abide by the rules and regulations. Organization of training method, there should training method for short-term ordained monks according to rules and regulations. Work performance, short-term ordained monks should be treated and cared of and trained evenly and fairly. Knowledgeable monks should be assigned to be trainers of short-term-ordained monks. Evaluation, there should be evaluation of short-term-ordained monks, opening opportunity for outsiders to perform the training and data of the short-term ordained monks should be recorded and kept for annually report of the activities
