The Process of Quality Life Development for Elderly in accordance with Principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham District, Phayao Province

Abstract

                  The objectives of research paper were: (1) to study the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province, (2) to compare the opinions of peoples toward the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhawana 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province, classified by personal factors, and (3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions of the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province. The research methodology was the mixed methods research, that the quantitative research used the questionnaire as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 398 peoples in Chiangkham district, Phayao province. The statistics were used for the data analysis through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test, F-test, One-way Analysis of Variance, and the qualitative research had the documentary analysis and interview as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 10 key informants and analyzed the data through the content analysis technique.

The findings of this research were as following:

            1. The process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province, overall, that was high level at mean of 3.93, when considering in each aspect, found that was high level all aspects, the aspect of physical development at mean of 3.79, the aspect of moral development at mean of 4.36, the aspect of emotional development at mean of 3.71, and the aspect of intellectual development at mean of 3.85.

           2. The comparison of peoples’ opinions toward the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province, classified by personal factors, found that  age and occupation had the opinions toward the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province were different, significantly at 0.05. But, sex, education, and income had the opinions toward the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province were not different.

            3. The problems, obstacles and suggestions of the process of quality life development for elderly in accordance with principle of Bhãvanã 4 in Chiangkham district, Phayao province as following: problems and obstacles found that lack of education for the elderly about health care according to the way of life and traditional wisdom of Thailand, problems from the emphasis on activities of merit-making on important day of religious only, problems from focusing on the practice of dharma alone without supplementing other recreational activities for the elderly, some elderly lack new knowledge according to the changing circumstances of the modern world society. And, suggestions found that should campaign for stakeholders to share knowledge about health care according to the way of life and traditional wisdom of Thailand to the elderly via television and radio, should encourage all temples to be the center of the community in organizing important events related to family institutions, should encourage temples that are ready to organize Buddhism art therapy activities that help to relax the mind and happiness for the elderly along with the Dhamma practice, and, should encourage all temples to be sources of dissemination of knowledge in Buddhism and new knowledge according to the changes of the world for the elderly in order to develop intellectual skills.
