Abstract

The aims of this research were: 1) to study the lifestyle of the students in the meditation instructor course of the Palang Cittanuphap Institute 95, Sakonnakhon province; 2) to study the application of Kalayanamitta-Dhamma (Dhammas of Good Friends) of the students. This study was conducted by the qualitative research methodology. The research tools used were an in-depth interview form, group dynamic and observation.

The research results were as follows:

The lifestyle of the students in the meditation instructor course is based on the teachings of Phra Dhamma Mongkolayan (Venerable Viriyang Siridaro). They bring his teachings as the guidelines to practice in the course in both theoretical and practical aspects. There are harmony, mutual respect and generosity among them. They continuously practice meditation, consciousness and right conducts in physical, vocal and mental aspects. They are the good sample within their family and societies in terms of providing advices to the others in meditation practice and living in the society.

The study of the application of Kalayanamitta-Dhamma (Dhammas of Good Friends) of the students revealed that the students practices seven principles of the dhamma: endearing (piyo), esteemable (garu), adorable (bhavanīyo), being a counsellor (vattāca), being a patient listener (vacanakkhamo), able to deliver deep discourses (gambhīrañca katham kattā) and never exhorting groundlessly (no caṭthāne niyojaye). Even they did not have the complete basic of the dhamma but they can practice the dhamma based on their understanding such as dressing, manner expression, speech, being a good friend, being reliable to friends, being a good sample in the society. They also practice the principles of Brahmavihara dhamma (brahmavihāra, sublime states of the mind) so that they have polite manners, are responsible for both personal and public matters, have a good relationship, provide support to each other, always study the principles for personal development, are a rational person using speech to reasonably express opinions and give useful advice with a smile, avoid gossip and conflicts, are able to give advice in life and subjects, both secular and religious matters, and family matters, progress in meditation and not lead in evil ways.
