The method of research is the documentary research.

The result of research found that during the 25th century, England and France were colonial in Asia and Southeast Asia. India, Myanmar, Malaya (Malaysia) were dependency of England, Vietnam and Khmer (Cambodia) which located on the Indochina Peninsula became colony of France. After had occupied Vietnam and Khmer, France planned to occupy Laos which is the part of Indochina. Laos at the time was Siam’s Kingdom on the left (East) of the Mekong River. France requested Siam to renounce the territory on the left bank of the Mekong River by the reason that Laos was dependency of Vietnam before. When Vietnam became France, Laos must also belong to France as replacement. Siam had refused, France ever tried to find sources to lead to dispute with Siam. And finally, France decided to send two gunships across the shoals into Bangkok. It caused to fight with the Siamese forces. Both of them were damaged in both life and property. France called for Siam to compensate for damages to France, and requested Siam renounce the territory on the left bank of the Mekong River.

His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, King Rama V, was patient and tolerant from

France’s treat. He was asked for an explanation from France about the right of Vietnamese and Khmer, how did the territory on the left bank of the Mekong River come? This was the objection shown by Siam to France. France was dissatisfied and announced to close the gulf of Thailand. Eventually, Siam had to give up and gave the territory on the left bank of the Mekong River which was the site of Laos and compensate for damages to France. The ten years later, Siam had to renounce the Luangprabang city, the right bank of Mekong River, Manopai, and Champasak to exchange for Chanthaburi, and had to surrendered the area in north of Siem Reap, Battambang, Sisophon, and Koh Kong to exchange for Trat, and surrendered over the territories of Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu to Britain in exchange for the cancellation of the extraterritorial right granted to England.
