Abstract

Abstract

This thesis contained 3 purposes; 1) to study concept of Kammain the Theravada Buddhist scriptures,2) to study the beliefs onKammasolving and 3) to study the beliefs on solving the Kamma of Buddhists in Thai society. This research is documentary by research on the primary sources of Buddhist texts, Tipitaka, academic work, research, theses, journals and other media related to research. The collected data was analyzed, compiled in descriptive style and finally verified by experts.

The results of the research showed that Kamma means the actions divided into 3 types; bodily, verbal and mental actions. This Kamma was one among 4 Buddhist faiths (Saddhā); Kammasaddhā is to believe that karma is true, Vipākasaddhā refers to the fruits of actions believing that everything men did, good or bad will always produce its fruits,Kammassakatāsaddhāis belief in which one owns his actions and Tathāgatabodhisaddhā or belief in the enlightenment of the Buddha. The teaching of action is a key doctrine in the development of oneself and society.

For belief in Kammasolution, the Buddha taught man to develop spiritual attainment until entering the knowledge of path which will prevent defilements to rise as well as the prevention of unwholesome Kamma retribution. Most people think that they can solve Kamma or suggest solutions to others. Many people who falsely believe in Kamma retribution are experiencing bad fate, problem of life, suffering, illness etc. and think that these problems had been determinedby previous lives and unable to find a way out of suchproblem by himself then he seeks outsides or the mediums to tell what he did in previous lives and give the way out of difficulties such as  meritmaking, religious practice etc.

Analysis of the belief in Kamma in Thai society found that in the present, Thai people even knowing the Buddhist Kamma, butstill have the self-attachment by misunderstanding that Kamma contains forceful power creating any situationsto them. What happens to them was resulted by past Kamma causing the false belief, insecurity, difficulties in life in present etc. In fact, past Kammacannot be completely resolved, but ableto be changed in future by abandoning all unwholesome deeds, cheating etc. so one must lift up his mind beyond unwholesome and wholesome acts.If one wishes to get good results he must perform merits to gain happiness. If one still performs unwholesomeness, he will surely receive unhappiness as its fruit in nearly future.
