Abstract

This thesis has 3 objectives namely: 1) to studying the Being of a Noble One the Theravãda Buddhist scriptures, 2) to study the Ubhatobhāgavimutti in the Theravãda Buddhist scriptures, and 3) to study Being of a Noble One of Ubhatobhāgavimutti in Theravãda Buddhist Scriptures, by studying information from the Theravãda Buddhist scriptures and other relevant documents, compiled, described as in descriptive research. Then submitted to the specialists to verify and revised according to suggestions.

The results revealed that the Being of a Noble One is the one who has realized Noble truth resulting from Insight meditation practice until knowing the true nature called the Four Noble Truths. It is the wisdom entered Nine Supramundane states; 4 Noble Paths, 4 Noble Fruits and one Nibbana, then one became a Noble One among 4 Noble Ones; Sotāpanna, Sakadāgāmῑ, and Anāgāmῑ, Arahanta. The Ubhatobhāgavimutti has specific characteristics that only appear in Buddhism. It is the deliverance of the two parts; deliverance of mind and deliverance by insight. He is an Arahanta who have fully skills in Eight Deliverances which are the emancipation from body with formless meditative attainment as the foundation of insight until free from mind and body through the Noble Paths. The state of Being a Noble One in Ubhatobhāgavimutti refers to an Arahanta who has cultivated concentration as the preliminary stage, then following Insight meditation later by applying trance state of four absorptions of Formless Spheres as the objects of insight meditation. It also refers to Anāgāmῑ who leaved Nirodhasamāpatti the observing insight rise and fall of all formations with insight until completely realizing four noble resulting knowledge and complete deliverance in final which is entering the two parts, that is to say, deliverance from bodily form with Arūpasamapatti and deliverance from defilements with Noble Paths.
