Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

 

             The purposes of this study were 1) to study the concept of quality of life and facing of death peacefully in Psychology, 2) to study the concept of quality of life and facing of death peacefully in Buddhism and 3) to analytically study of the four Foundations Mindfulness for quality of life and facing of death peacefully.

             The research is a documentary study collecting datas from Tripitakas Commentary and Sub-commentary literatures of Buddhism.

 

             The results were as follows:

 

              1) It is found that the quality of life includes the good development of bio-social, emotional cognitive, motivation, attitude and behaviour modification that help person having self-esteem and good stress management. Whereas the medication emphasizes on physical well-being by application of many science which more emphasis on spiritual aspect.

             2) It is found that Buddhism teach the holistic of quality of life including physical,mental and spiritual aspect. And the ideal of life that having perfect mindfulness and clear comprehension, even in the last moment of life , by developping through the Noble Path from the quality of physical social, mental cognitive and spiritual conditions.

             3) It is found that, the four foundations of Mindfulness is the specific technical to enhance the perfect of mindfulness and clear comprehension. It releases person in stress and suffering from the encountering death.

              Contemplation of the body enhances the peace of speed and body, becoming mindfulness in any actions. Contemplation of the feeling makes to be relax and releases pains and torture. Contemplation of mind help patient concentrate in meditation object, staying focus on the object concentration.

          The Four Foundations help letting go of thoughts and attachments and remain in emptiness, in beyond birth and death. They also acknowledge them realistically in the present moment; diligently prevent un-arisen unwholesome thoughts from arising; abandon the arisen unwholesome thoughts; develop the undeveloped wholesome thoughts; strengthen and cultivate the existing wholesome thoughts. As the last mind-object approaches and the mind is with wholesomeness, the mind ceases in that very moment and does not lead to the four low realms of existence (apāya 4). The aim is for the human realm, heaven realm, or nibbāna, which is the freedom from all sufferings and beyond the cyclic existence (samsara).
