Abstract

Abstract

This thesis has three objectives: 1) to study the concept of Sugati as appeared in Suttanta Pitaka, 2) to study the concept of ways leading to Sugati as appeared in Suttanta Pitaka, and 3) to apply the way of life to Sugati in the present society.

The study revealed that Sugati as appeared in Suttanta Pitaka is the three good worlds: world of human beings, heavens, and Brahma worlds. These worlds are the destinations of lives after death. Each type of Sugati is differently refined according to its level related to Samsara, cycle of rebirth, and depended on actions and their fruits.

The way of life leading to Sugati can be divided into two ways: 1) the way of life as a monk, and 2) the household way of life. The principles that support living to Sugati are: maintaining the morality, good services, the principle of Anupupikatha, taking a good care the parents and insight meditation (Vipassana). There are three benefits reaped from the way leading to Sugati: benefits in the present, in the future and the ultimate benefits.

For the application of the principles of living to Sugati in the present, there are three spheres: family, to apply in the level human world, good realm and Brahma world.
