THE EXPECTATION OF BUDDHIST MONKS TOWARDS THE LEADERSHIP OF THE ABBOTS IN MUANG DISTRICT, SUPHANBURI PROVINCE

Abstract

 

                                                   ABSTRACT            

             The objectives of this research were 1) to study the level of  Expectations of Monks  towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District , Suphanburi Province, 2) to study the comparison of the  Expectations of Monks  towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District , Suphanburi Province, classified by personal factors , 3) To study the problems , obstacles and suggestions about Expectations of Monks  towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District , Suphanburi Province. The sampling group of this research was 302 general Monks in Muang District, Suphanburi Province. The research methodology was the mixed method between the quantitative and qualitative methods. The tool used for data collection was in depth interview and data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation; SD, t-test and F-test by one way analysis of variance; ANOVA, and test the differences of the average pairing with the Least Significant Difference: LSD and the data analysis was an Interview and using content analysis technique.

The findings of this research were as following :

          1. The monks had the Expectations of Monks  towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District, Suphanburi Province in the  general, found that it was at high level (X=3.91).   

          2. The comparisons of the Expectations of monks towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District, Suphanburi Province, classified by personal data in overall and found that that the monks who had the knowledge of Dhamma Education differently. They had the expectations to of Leadership of Abbots in Muang District, Suphanburi Province differently by statistically significant at the 0.05 level. It is relevant to hypothesis but the group of monks who had the differences of age, ordination year, Dhamma Education, General Education and Sangha Positions and then it had   Expectations of monks towards Leadership of Abbots in Muang District, Suphanburi Province indifferently, so it rejected the hypothesis.

The Problems, obstacles about  the Expectations of monks towards Leadership of Abbots  in Muang District, Suphanburi Province , found that they did not have the system and without direction to manage  and run the educational system of monks, novices, householders and children perfectly and lacked of Meditation Center for Buddhism Propagation to the people  and the interest and the roles of monks played the small role for the public domains to the people and community and repaired the religious buildings and cultured promotion. The monks focused on using the religious buildings and should also build it in the proper and useful ways. They should support the education to the novices and monks and including children and support to build the meditation center to propagate Buddhism and should increase the role of leadership to the benefit of people and community and repair the old religious buildings and support the culture.

          4. The guideline for Expectations of monks towards Leadership of Abbots in Muang District, Suphanburi Province in the overall, found that should distribute the scholarship to the children and teenagers in the educational institutions for the community welfare, especially the temple in the school must play more attention because it is a part of temple. The new monks who are educated, they should be trained to teach and develop the mind of the people and can apply to use in daily life and can reduce the social problems of teenagers who are crazy for modern technology and poor society. The people lack of the hospitality and selfishness. The way for welfare should be relaxing and entertaining through the activities in the sake of people as the sustainable development is to keep the stability of traditions by cultural promotion.
