A Study of Dhamma Practice of Veluwan Meditation Center and One Development based on the Threefold Training of Buddhists

ABSTRACT

The main purposes of this thematic paper were to study principles and methods of Dhamma practice at the Veluwan Meditation Center and to analyze a result of the Buddhsits’ Dhamma practice at the Veluwan Meditation Center according to the Threefold Training-based Development. This was a qualitative research to collect all data from books, texts, Buddhist academic paper and related researches with the descriptive analysis.

A result of this study was found that the Veluwan Meditation Center in Khonkaen province was established according to the intention and aspiration of Phradhammasinghapuracariya (Charan Thitadhammo), the abbot of Veluwan temple and the past provincial ecclesiastical officer in Singburi province. He wanted to make it the meditation center rather than a common temple and brought good things Dhamma practice center to Khonkaen province and near provinces. Here, the meditation practice followed the Four Foundations of Mindfulness: (1) Kāyānupassanā (contemplation on a body), (2) Vedanānupassanā (contemplation on feelings), (3) Cittānupassanā (contemplation on mind), and (4) Dhammānupassanā (contemplation on mental objects).

A result of’ the insight-meditation practice, made by the Buddhists according to Threefold Training: morality, concentration, and wisdom, was to ask them to get morality for bodily-control and to practice meditation for mental peace, concentration, and wisdom. This way helped those Buddhist greatly to get wisdom with four fruits: (1) a physical aspect covering moral conduct through a body, speech, and legal occupations, (2) the precepts covering good association with friends and communities, good interaction with the societies, compassion, and social, creative ideas, (3) stable mind focusing on a thing with mindfulness, concentration and compassion, (4) wisdom covering the right view and clear understanding of changing things mindfully with reasonable consideration according Threefold Training.
