Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

This Research entitled “The management of meditation center in Samutprakarn Province” had objectives as to; 1) study problems of meditation center management in Samut Prakan province 2) study the uidelines for the meditation center management in Samut Prakan province and 3) propose the model of meditation center management in Samut Prakan province.

Methodology was the mixed methods.The qualitative research collected data from 12 key informants using a structured in-depth- interview by face-to-face interviewing, analyzed data by descriptive interpretation. The quantitative research collected data from 147 samples who were Bhikkhu at Sangha Administration, region 9, collecting data by closed and open ended questionnaires, analysis data with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test.

 

Findings were as follow:     

1. Problems of meditation center management in Samut Prakan province were that  there were not  a private classroom There were too many activities in monasteries that were not supportive the mediation practice. Administrators lacked far and wide vision, not enough learners and teachers. Lack of apporporiate welfares and lack of budget supporting the learning and teaching activities. Monks had opinions toward the meditation center management  in Samut Prakan province by overall at moderate level.

2. The guidelines for mediation center management  in Samut Prakan province were that  administrative Monks  had plan and managed the meditation centers by the rules of the Sangha Supreme Council and had appropriate evaluation  and planning of the meditation centers to find the right conclusions. There were training and seminar for personnel of monasteries and monastery schools emphasizing working to worship Buddha. There were personnel controlling to practice by the rules and regulations of the centers. Administrative monks had opinions towards the meditation center management in Samutprakarn Province by overall at moderate level. The meditation center management in line with Itthipata 4 by overall at moderate level. 

3. The management model of meditation center management in Samutprakarn Province were:

3.1 Planning according to Itthipata 4; administrative  monks was satisfied with the center practice in  planning. There was not ignoring and discarding materials for operations by defining the structure and form of meditation center management. Administrators should be responsible for construction, reparing  diligently in the proper time. There should  motivate vision. Team leaders acted as coordinators of the center management. There were criteria that can be checked and the management of the meditation center be carried out carefully and through roughly. 

3.2 Organizing according to Itthipata 4; meditation enter as well as monasteries were well prepared for religious places and personnel for construction. Management of meditation centers with arts and science. Meditation centers could be renovated or rebuilt or constructed. There should be funding support allocation to created morale for those who worked for the meditation centers.

3.3 Staffing in accordance with Itthipata 4; There should be personnel’s data and needs in order to design the appropriate methods for the medication center management with satisfaction and solve management problems. There be job assessment according to each objectives. The team leaders understand working strategy in order to manage the center continuously. Analysis the monastery environments for strength, weakness, opportunity and threats in order to manage the meditation centers effectively and meet the objectives. 

3.4 Directing according to Itthipata 4; meditation center management process setting with time schedules, allocations of necessary resources, personnel, tools and budgets. Network communication with all levels be set up to dispatch news and information about rules and regulations of the meditation centers or monastery repairing and renovation, the results of meditation practice. Monasteries repairing and renovation must have reliable evident. Monasteries had duties to manage the meditation centers appropriately and suitable for Dhamma practice.  

3.5 Controlling according to Itthipata 4; Management Assessment from supporters, from the comments of those involved. Meditation center management should be conducted by controlling, planning, organizing, managing, directing. Administrators acted as consultants to the team. For the construction and restoration measurement, administrative monks understand their obligations to manage meditation centers carefully and through roughly.
