The Role of Sangha in Continuing The Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province

Abstract

                The  objectives  of  this  research  are :  1 )  to  study  the  level  of Thai Raman people’s opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role in continuing  Thai  Raman  culture in Samutsakhon Province, 2) to compare the Thai Raman people’s opinion of Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon  Province, being separated in individual factors and 3) to study the problems, obstacles  and  suggestions of Thai Raman people’s opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province. The research  methodology used in the research was  the  Mixed  Method  Research consisting of 1) Quantitative Research of which the data were collected by using the questionnaire and studied from  the sampling group of 320 Thai  Raman people in  Samutsakhon province. The instrument used in  data collection was questionnaire  which divided into three sections: The section 1 would be concerned with the questionnaire for collecting the general data of questionnaire answerers. The section 2 would be concerned with the questionnaire of Thai Raman people’s opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing Thai Raman Culture in  Samutsakhon  Province. The section 3 would be concerned with the questionnaire of the problems, obataclrs and suggestions of the Buddhist monks’ role in    Continuing The Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province. the data were analyzed by evaluating the frequency, percentage,  mean,  standard  deviation. Testing T-test and F- test was made by the way of One way ANOVA analysis of  variance, Testing the difference of the mean  in pair made by the way of the Least Significant Difference ( LSD ) , 2)  Qualitative Research of which the data were  collected  by  interviewing 5  people related  with  the  content.

From the result  of  this  research, it has been found that

             1. The level of Thai  Raman people’s opinion  of the Buddhist monks’  role in Continuing the Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province, has been found that in a whole, it was at the high level.

             2. In the comparative analysis of Thai Raman people’s opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing the Thai Raman Culture in Samutsakhon  Province, being separated in individual status, as a whole, for the Thai Raman people whose gender, status, educational qualification and occupation were different, their  opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role  in Continuing  the Thai  Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province was not different, hereby, the set hypothesis was rejected. For the Thai  Raman people whose age and income were different, their opinion of the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing the Thai Raman Culture in  Samutsakhon Province was different with statistical significance at the level 0.05, hereby, the set hypothesis was accepted.

              3. The problems of the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing the Thai  Raman  Culture in Samutsakhon  Province were that in the aspect of the promotion of using Mon language for communication in daily life, the Thai  Raman people seldom used it and Buddhist monks hardly took the role or participation in  promoting the way of life  in Tai-Raman style

               In  the result of  interview, it has been found that  the Buddhist monks were important to the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing the Thai  Raman Culture, they were the original models for conservation of language, custom, tradition and culture, religious faith and the way of living.

               The suggestions on the Buddhist monks’ role in Continuing the Thai  Raman Culture in Samutsakhon Province were; the promotion of using Mon language to Thai Raman people should be done and the Buddhist monks should pay their role and participation in promoting the way if living in the Thai- Raman style.
