The Application of Brahmaviharadhamma to Build up the Peace in Bangphli District, Samutprakan Province

Abstract

 This research consisted of three objectives: 1) to study the concept of Brahmaviharadhamma in Tipitaka, 2) to study the concept of the peace in Tipitaka, and 3) to study the application of Brahmaviharadhamma to build up the peace in Bangphli District, Samutprakan Province. This research is quantitative research by survey research.

The sample used in this research comprised  217 respondents in the field of administration at Bangkaew Sub-district Administrative Organization (SAO) and general people. Tool for data collection in the research is questionnaire divided into 3 parts : 1) the general information of the sample 2) the opinion of the sample about the application of Brahmaviharadhamma to build up the peace in Bangphli District, Samutprakan Province, and 3) the opinion of the sample about problem and the suggestion. Information has been collected by distributing questionnaire to the sample and asking them to fill them up. Statistic used in the research includes ratio of frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, assumption test by using t-test statistic and F-test (One-way Analysis of Variance).

The results of the research are concluded as follows:

1.      Most of the respondents are female (57.6%), aged between 20-30 years old (35.5%), with education level in bachelor's degree (40.64%). Most of them are married (53.5), with monthly income 10,001-20,000 bath (44.2%)

2.      Most of the respondents had the opinion about the application of Brahmaviharadhamma to build up the peace in Bangkaew Sub-district, Bangphli district, Samutprakan province in the overall in high level with mean 4.39. When consider in each factor found the top three factors are Upekkha (Equanimity) with mean score = 4.46, the second is Mudita (Sympathy Joy) with mean score = 4.41, next is Karuna (Compassion) with mean score = 4.40, and the last one is Metta (Loving-Kindness) with mean score = 4.33.

3.      The result from hypothesis found that there were significant differences between age and education level in the application of Brahmaviharadhamma to build up the peace in Bangkaew Sub-district, Bangphli District, Samutprakan province at the level of 0.05 and the hypothesis was accepted. There were not significant differences between gender, status, and monthly income in the application of Brahmaviharadhamma to build up the peace in Bangkaew Sub-district, Bangphli District, Samutprakan Province at the level of 0.05 and the hypothesis was not accepted.

4.      The major suggestions of this study are: 1) Metta (Loving-Kindness) there should help each other. If the people in sub-district know and learn Metta (Loving-Kindness), the people will be happy. The people in community must be generous and have the apportion to each other. 2) Karuna (Compassion), there should help who frail and have no chance. When people help each other will make the society happy, do not take advantage on others and don't be selfish. 3) Mudita (Sympathy Joy) do not envy or do bad thing to others if you do not good enough, congratulate to other, and should not envy or gossip. 4) Upekkha (Equanimity) there should ignore in not advantage thing and do not aggravate when others make a mistake. The people should learn Brahmaviharadhamma in the everyday life.

The suggestions for the development revealed that there  should encourage people to apply the Brahmaviharadhamma principle in their life, make people in the community to have the love, the goodwill to each other. There should listen the other’s opinions and should encourage people to behave with love etc.
