Abstract

The objectives of this research are to study the education on the Threefold Training and the analysis of education on the Threefold Training. On methodology, the researcher collected data from Tipitaka of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya Version, review of literature on related documents and research works. Data analysis was done by description. The results of the research are as follows:-

1.             The education according to the Threefold Training is that the Buddha

has taught the Threefold Training in Vajjiputta Sutta, Dutiyasikkhattaya Sutta, and Tatiyasikkha Sutta. The Threefold Training means training in morality, concentration and wisdom. The Threefold Training can be classified according to the content of Atthangika-magga i.e. the Noble Eightfold Path and Dhamma-khandha 3 i.e. bodies of doctrine. The Threefold Training is important because it is the whole source of training rules in the Patimokkha, the fundamental precepts of sublime life, the influence to Buddhist scriptures, the whole source of Buddhist meditation in Buddhism. The essentials of the Threefold Training are the three principles of training i.e. higher training in morality, concentration, and wisdom. There are four important concepts of the Threefold Training on education; they are the construction of condition for the right view, the getting of the right view, the educational process according to the principles of the Threefold Training, and getting of measurement and evaluation.

2.             An analysis of education according to the Threefold Training was found

that the Threefold Training is derived from Vajjiputta Sutta, Dutiyasikkhattaya Sutta, and Tatiyasikkha Sutta. The education in the Buddha’s time was originated from the group of five Bhikkhus. The learners in the Buddha’s time were divided into two groups i.e. the group of monks and the group of laities. Both groups had different qualifications. The scope of education in Buddhism was in provided in principles of the threefold training. The learning and teaching pattern in the Buddha’s time were the form of oral tradition. The education according to the Threefold Training had got four important processes i.e. the construction of condition for the right view, the getting of the right view, the training according to the principles of the Threefold Training, and getting of measurement and evaluation according to the principles of the Threefold Training.
