Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

                   The objectives of this research are: 1) to study the roles of Buddhist monks in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province, 2) to compare the roles of Buddhist monks in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province, according to the opinion of youths with classified by personal status, and 3) to examine the problems, obstacles, suggestions and guideline in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province. The research method is Mixed Research, quantitative research field study with youth who are enrolled in upper secondary school in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province - totaling 362. The tool for collecting data was as the questionnaire is both closed and open-ended. The Researcher used in data analysis were the frequency, percentage (%), mean ( ), standard deviation (S.D.), test the hypothesis by testing the value t-test and F-test, one way analysis of variance and least significant difference (LSD), and qualitative research, by analysis of documents and in-depth interviews.

The findings of this research are as follows:

                   1. The roles of Buddhist monks in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province was found that overall in high level at mean of 4.13, when considering the separation aspects has found that the ethical of the model, instructor, admonish, the moral training, create public mind in high level all aspect.

                   2. The comparison the roles of Buddhist monks in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province by the opinion of the youth with different personal status was found that the personal status of the youth with school affiliation and education level by youth opinion has results the significantly different at the 0.05 level - this match the hypothesis. Those personal statuses are gender, age, and grade has results not different.

                   3. The suggestions and guideline in the roles of Buddhist monks in virtue and ethics promotion for youths in Muangratchaburi district, Ratchaburi province by aspects of the study.

                   3.1 The ethical of the model: the monks should be lay people done in the quest in not places for the traffic, and the monk should be recommended to the youths know the facts about the monk scandal news in some media as a personal act, not an act of monk Buddhist majority.

                   3.2 Instructor: the monks should update the model and teaching methods to suit the ages and inspire the youth, should provide for the measurement and evaluation of teaching and learning by observing the behavior of the test, should create a channel for the opportunity to teach a limited period of time, such as network internet access and facebook etc, should inculcate values to student learning to focus on knowledge not the score or GPA.

                   3.3 Admonish: the monks should assess the risk and to admonish the youth of defense trouble and create a network for monitoring the behavior of youth with the participation of young people themselves, should create a youth friendly, and should take the form of a call to action rather than follow dictation and do not punish to the shame.

                   3.4 The moral training: the monks should create a network between those involved with youth in a systematic manner, and should be the activities covered by the youth in all levels.

                   3.5 Create public mind: should support social service activities like volunteering to instill in young people a social consciousness, and should be networking with civil society by organizing activities with other schools to build social networks of youth.
